Everything You Need to Know About Meghan Markle’s Transformation into a Full Royal

Since Meghan and Harry have been all over the tabloids these past few weeks after deciding to leave their royal duties, we thought it would be a good idea to reflect on Meghan’s transformation into a full royal before seeing her depart.

Meghan Markle, now (though not much longer) Duchess of Sussex, made her first official appearance after her wedding with Prince Harry in 2018. The then newlyweds visited the garden of Buckingham Palace to be a part of the celebration for the 70th birthday of her father-in-law, Prince Charles.

For this occasion, the new member of the British royalty looked simply radiant and not only in a figurative sense. But there was something else about the elegant choices made by Meghan that caught the attention of fashionistas everywhere.

Since the news of her relationship and engagement broke, Meghan impressed the world with her elegant and fresh style, but it was undeniable that in a matter of three days since her wedding, she seemed to have followed the rules of the royal dress code to perfection.

Here are the major clues behind her royal transformation:

1. The headdress

The headdresses are one of the most characteristic elements of the English elite. Although Meghan had already worn one at Christmas and in a religious service by the Australian and New Zealand Armed Forces, on those occasions she went for a pretty discreet option. Meanwhile, for her first appearance as an official member of the royal house, she has opted for a broad-sized hat without fear of becoming the center of attention.

2. Arms and neckline covered

This principle of discretion was followed by Markle from the start: since her engagement with Prince Harry was made public, she has favored mainly items that show less, and her first public appearance has not been the exception. Markle appeared in a dress that covers completely her arms and necklines with tulle fabric.

3. The Royal Clutch

During her trip to Edinburgh with Prince Harry, Meghan’s crossbody bag attracted attention because royals usually carry small clutches. Although people were wondering if this would be one of those protocols that the duchess would break, it became clear now that the clutch is her new go-to.

4. Mandatory stockings

By protocol, women who belong to the royal household must wear stockings when wearing a skirt or dress. Although this is not the first time that Meghan has done it, she also followed this rule very clearly with a pair of white stockings.

It will be interesting to see how Meghan’s style changes after her and Harry’s depart from their royal duties.
