How to Celebrate National Women’s Health and Fitness Day

Today is National Women’s Health and Fitness Day and it is the largest health and fitness promotional event for women in the U.S.

If you’re struggling with the numerous options available, here are a few ways to get you on the path to peak fitness.


10,000 steps a day

Did you know that, for most people, taking 10,000 steps a day is equal to five miles of walking? Five miles of walking is optimum for good health? Get a pedometer and find out how many steps you are naturally taking per day. Then, according to the Mayo Clinic, try adding an additional 1000 steps a week.
You’ll be reaching your goal before you know it!


Low-impact workouts

Are you not into running, jogging, or other more aggressive forms of exercise? No worries, because low-impact workouts are more effective that you might think! If you are new to exercise, try yoga, pilates, walking, or swimming. These are all forms of low impact exercise that will help tone, firm, and stretch your muscles. And you’ll have fun doing it too!


Snack all day

Did you know that snacking is actually good for you? That’s right, enjoy a handful of almonds, blueberries, a crunchy apple, or bowl of yogurt in between meals. When early man was a hunter and gatherer, he didn’t have three square meals a day. Rather, ancient man grazed on roots, grains, and grasses all day. This is the ideal way to eat, so eating small meals plus snacks throughout the day is beneficial for optimum digestion and health.

You heard right, sometimes your brain needs a rest. It is vital to positive mental health to stop, rest, and relax on occasion. Take time for yourself on this holiday to read a book, make some tea, play with your pets and recharge mentally. You’ll feel refreshed and ready to tackle the world again!

Now is the perfect day to join a health club. And better yet, join with a friend so you can both support each other. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art exercise equipment plus classes, trainers, and moral support!

Did you know that by eating one apple before each meal, you can curb your appetite naturally and therefore eat less? This is a natural, inexpensive way to lose weight. Plus, apples contain fiber that aids in digestion. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away!

If you don’t know what to do this holiday, why not donate a few hours to your local senior center? Understand the importance of giving back today by sharing your time with others. They’ll be thankful and so you will you!


Stick to a plan

Did you know that most people are apt to do something if they write it down and stick to a plan? This also pertains to exercise. By writing down your exercise plan for the week, you are much more likely to stick to your schedule. Do it and cross it off your list!
