Netflix’s Fashion Documentaries That You Cannot Miss

There are two things almost everybody loves: fashion and Netflix. So, nothing could be more perfect than spending a relaxing evening enjoying all the great fashion movies available on this platform.
Here are four great documentaries that you have to see if you love everything related to fashion, design, and creativity.

  1. Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards

This entertaining documentary shows the charismatic shoe designer Manolo Blahnik and how his extraordinary dedication to his profession led him to become a living legend, earning him the title of “the best cobbler of the century”.

The name of the documentary “Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards” refers to his childhood in the Canary Islands where, from a very young age, he caught lizards and made little shoes with the aluminum foil of his candy. The designer personally recounts his personal experiences, such as the time he met the legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland and the opening of his first store in London.

  1. Dries

This documentary gives an intimate look at the life of Belgian designer Dries Van Noten. This film is a window to the designer’s creative process who, for more than 25 years, has remained independent in an industry that is increasingly accelerated, competitive, and globalized.

For a full year, director Reiner Holzemer accompanied the designer in both professional and private events during the creation of four collections — from the process of choosing and producing fabrics and embroidery, to the setting and logistics of the fashion show in Paris.

  1. House of Z

This documentary made from archives and exclusive interviews tells the story of the rise, fall, and resurgence of charismatic American fashion designer Zac Posen. “House of Z” is a chronicle of the rapid growth of the designer, his downfall after the stock market crisis of 2008, and the great challenge that involved rebuilding his company and his reputation after being infamously known for his extravagant and somewhat arrogant personality. In emotional interviews, the designer himself confesses that fashion has a dark side and reflects on the mistakes and successes of his career as a designer.

  1. Maddman: The Steve Madden Story

This exciting biopic tells the unstable career of shoe designer Steve Madden, from his problems with drugs to the massive success of his brand. This dynamic documentary shows the life of Madden, since his college party days, and the work where he learned everything about the shoe manufacturing business. The film is a unique opportunity to learn more about his career trajectory and the great investment that catapulted him to be the first brand to democratize trends in the footwear industry.
