Summer is here and that means more time outside having fun in the sun! You might be on the run more too as the kids are out of school and you’re busy taking them everywhere. Sometimes it’s not easy grabbing a healthy snack and all too often you’ll go through a drive-thru for convenience. Or perhaps you’ll choose a sugary snack over a healthy one. But for those of us who want to choose healthier options for snacks this summer, it is as simple as paying attention to the snack choices you make!

Choosing healthier snacks can help to prevent unnecessary weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart attacks and strokes.

If you are an active person, snacks should not go over 200-300 calories. If you are not an active person, your snacks should not be over 200 calories. And you should snack only when you are hungry, not bored. Also, it is important to watch added sugar in your snacks. So read labels to understand what the ingredients are in your snacks.

Here are 6 ideal snacks for summer that will keep you looking fit and fabulous all season long!

Chia seed everything

Did you know that chia seeds are full of fiber, protein and omega-3 fatty acids? They taste great and are simple to turn into a pudding. Simply add 2 cups of unsweetened almond milk, 6 tablespoons of chia seeds, ¬¨Œ© teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of sweetener such as maple syrup. Mix together and refrigerate for two hours. Voila! Top with berries and you’ll have a tasty snack!
