Sofia, why did you leave modeling behind? Many girls can only dream about working with such a prestigious modeling agency as Elite.

It wasn’t so much me leaving modeling behind as it was following the steps I had planned for myself. I wanted to model so as to familiarize and be totally at ease with cameras. Models have to learn to love the camera, as do actors. Being at Elite was an amazing experience, but what I wanted in the end was to just go out and do photo shoots till all my nerves and jitters were just a thing of the past. I was ridiculously shy starting out, so I had to nip that in the bud before beginning anything.

Do you miss it?

Funny enough, I never do. You can have many hobbies, granted, but you can only have one love. Acting provides that for me. I always say that I would never be deathly exhausted doing anything else .¨ that’s when you know you’ve found your life’s passion.

Have you always dreamed of being an actress?

Yes!! Always. Ever since I first saw Bette Davis on the screen, in All About Eve. I had never been so singularly in love with a movie star my entire life as I was with her, and no one will ever find her equal. Her presence always commanded attention; I can only hope to achieve that one day.

How hard was it for you to break into acting?

Fairly difficult. I’m still doing it! It’s tough not so much going through the audition process as it is finding the role that fits you, not just doing anything that gets you a paycheck. I pass on many projects because I won’t do certain things on screen. I love Game of Thrones as much as the next person, but I could never do intimate scenes like that.

What do you like about acting?

I love the craft. Taking someone’s skin, putting it on for a period of time and hanging it up when you’re done. Not only it is a psychological challenge, but it’s often times a physical one as well. It’s like The Matrix, except instead of taking a few seconds to learn Kung-fu, it takes a few months. Who wouldn’t want to do that?

""

What don’t you like about acting?

There’s not a lot I could say about that, but if I had to name one it would be the politics. Politics of any career is undesirable, but in this business it really sucks. The “who you know” phrase? Not exaggerated. It really happens, and all the damn time.

Many girls in Hollywood are not able to transition from modeling to acting. What do you think is the number one mistake they make?

Number one? Easy. They want to look pretty all the time.

Sometimes you can’t come into the audition in full hair and makeup .¨ the role doesn’t call for that! They have to accept that adopting certain character dynamics .¨ and actual facial expressions – will inevitably put them at a beauty disadvantage.

""

What is your latest movie and what is your role?

My latest movie was Age of Dragons. I play Danny Glover’s adopted daughter, and essentially the commander of our vessel next to Vinnie Jones’ character. We hunt dragons. It was pretty awesome because I’m such a fan of both of those actors, and getting to stand toe-to-toe with them was pretty unbeatable.

""

Do you have a dream role? If so, what is it?

My dream role is in action/fantasy. I love Science Fiction, video games and playing with firepower and martial arts. Getting to mix all of those things together would be a perfect harmony. I am one of the biggest geeks you will ever meet and in about ten minutes you can catch me on Battle.net walloping my brother on the Diablo II boards.

He’ll kill me when he reads this. Ha-ha.

Long term plans?

Looking long term would be finding a niche where I fit and hopefully stay. That right there is the most difficult thing to do in this business, where so many other beautiful, talented women are trying to the same thing. I see myself doing this for a very long time, god willing!
